TVPBC Advancement Policies

The Director of Evaluation, along with the TVPBC BODs, have developed a system to evaluate and promote players into one of 5 levels: C, B2, B1, A2 and A1.  Most of our play is done with other players of similar skills. Players will be evaluated to determine their skill sets, to include knowledge of the game, backhand & forehand shots, variety & placement of shots, to include the ability to play a hard and soft game.

Active TVPBC members wishing to advance should review the  “Skill Assessment” and “Advancement Prerequisites & Evaluation Scheduling” before signing up for evaluation.

“C” to “B2” ADVANCEMENT

Members in the ”C” skill level wishing to be promoted will do so by signing up electronically using the Evaluation Sign Up Sheet located on the TVPBC website.  The cut-off time for signing up for evaluations is the last day of each month.

  • Players will be evaluated during the New Player & ”C” Meet & Greet Sessions (shown on the schedule). Players skills & abilities will be monitored by evaluators having knowledge of the requirements for the B2 level (i.e. Skill Assessment Form – “B2”). Evaluators will notify the Director of Evaluation of their decision.
  • Players who qualify for the next skill level will be notified by the Director of Evaluation at the end of the specified time and may begin playing with their new level immediately.  Newly promoted B2 players must play in the new skill level for a minimum of 3 months before being eligible to be promoted again.
  • Players not promoted will be given feedback based on the Evaluators comments, showing where they need to improve their skills. They will be encouraged to work on all areas needing improvement, including attendance at scheduled Skills & Drills sessions. Players not promoted must wait 2 months before signing up for evaluation again.

“B2” to “B1” ADVANCEMENT

Members in the “B2” skill level wishing to be promoted will do so by signing up electronically using the Evaluation Sign Up Sheet located on the TVPBC website.  The cut-off time for signing up for evaluations is the 25th of the month.   The candidates will be contacted by the Director of Evaluation instructing them of the evaluation process.

  • The evaluation process for these skill groups will consist of playing with or against the Captains of the higher skill group over a specified period, beginning the 1st of the month. The candidates will come out during the regular scheduled playing times for the skill level they are pursuing. At the end of the specified period, the Captains will notify the Director of Evaluation of their decision, after they have discussed the candidate among themselves and/or other players.
  • Players who qualify for the next skill level will be notified by the Director of Evaluation at the end of the specified time and may begin playing with their new level immediately.  Newly promoted B1 players must play in the new skill level for a minimum of 3 months before being eligible to be promoted again.
  • Players not promoted will be given a Skill Assessment Form – “B1” completed by the Director of Evaluation, based on the Captains comments, showing where they need to improve their skills. They will be encouraged to work on all areas needing improvement, including attendance at scheduled Skills & Drills sessions. Players not promoted must wait 3 months before signing up for evaluation again.

RE-ASSIGNMENT OF PLAYERS

Players are encouraged to do a self-evaluation on themselves when their playing skills or abilities may be less than their assigned level due to aging, injury, illness or other reasons. The President or Director of Evaluation may recommend that a player move to a lower skill level or attend an evaluation to appraise the player’s skills. Refer to “Re-Assignment of Players/Petition”.
